Perkins Library has one of the strongest Canadian Studies collections in the U.S. The library contains over 82,000 volumes on Canada, with 1,500 added in the past year. More than 400 serials are received, including six daily newspapers, five in English and one in French. The library automatically purchases most books published by Canadian University presses. The collection is especially strong in history, Canada-U.S. relations, literature, economics, health care, Native American studies, statistics, women's studies, multiculturalism, and politics. Materials in French relating to Quebec are collected intensively. Duke is a Depository for Canadian government publications, and receives most government reports. These are all cataloged and placed in the regular library collection. Perkins is also a depository for Canadian maps, with a collection of over 11,000 topographic and subject maps, which are stored and serviced by the Public Documents and Maps Department. The library also has an extensive collection of films and videos relating to Canada; microform sets, such as newspaper backfiles and parliamentary papers; and recordings.
