East Asian Newspapers on Microfilm

Currently Received EA Papers at UNC and Duke

Newspapers are arranged by country, then alphabetically by title.  With the exception of titles aimed at emigrants living abroad, all newspapers are listed under the country where they are published.  Newspapers for emigrants are listed under their home country.

The absence of location information in the UNC or Duke column indicates that the institution does not receive the newspaper, or does not receive it in that form.

The call number for a newspaper on microfiche, microfilm or computer disk is preceded by the # symbol for UNC-CH, and the letter "S" for Duke.

Paper copies of UNC newspapers are held in the Periodicals Reading Room (PRR) on the first floor of Davis Library, with the Asian Annex being a special section of that area.  Go to the Circulation Desk to request newspapers from storage.  Microforms are held in the Microforms Reading Room on the second floor of Davis Library.  Computer disks are held in the Machine-Readable Data Files Collection in BA/SS Reference on the first floor of Davis Library.

Paper copies of Duke newspapers are held in the gray folders on the first floor of Bostock Library until microfilm is received.  Titles not replaced by microfilm are kept for one year (except those in the East Campus Library, which are held for six months).  If there is no information about the disposition of a paper copy after it leaves the first floor of Bostock Library, the copy is discarded.

Please note that Perkins/Bostock Library has more East Asian papers than are listed here.  The papers listed here are the ones held by the Newspapers and Microforms Department.  The others can be found in the East Asian Collection, located on the second floor of Bostock Library.
