Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft

Germany's first Learned Society, founded in 1617

Martin Bircher's remarkable 17th and 18th century collection of Germany's first learned society is held at the Bancroft Library of the University of  California at Berkeley. The entire collection consists of 685 printed works, 335 manuscripts, 300 copperplate engravings, and 21 maps. It has been microfilmed and made available by IDC Publishers in the Netherlands.  Duke has purchased the microfiche of most of the  works that are not already contained in Duke's Jantz Collection and Yale's Faber du Faur Collection (microfilm held at Davis Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.)  All individual titles can be found by searching the online catalogs. Please note that Duke's catalog currently shows full holdings for the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft Collection, but Duke only owns a partial set. The microfiche are located at M9580 in the Microforms Department.

Im Garten der Palme, by Martin Bircher, a two volume descriptive catalog of all the works can be found in Perkins Library at 830.9005, B617, I31, 1998
