Foreign Films

Many of the above sources include material about foreign films (e.g., Film Literature Index, Film Review Annual, Variety's Film Reviews, Selected Film Criticism, New York Times Reviews, The Motion Picture Guide, International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers, and the Internet Movie Database). The following source, however, is devoted to foreign films.

Magill's Survey of Cinema: Foreign Language Films

This eight volume work covers 700 films, originating in a language other than English and released between 1929 and 1985. Includes plot summaries and reviews. See volume 8 for a cumulative index. Also searchable through DIALOG.


Silent Films

Consult any of these sources annotated above: The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, The New York Times Index, The New York Times Film Reviews, volume 10 of The Motion Picture Guide, and The International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers.
