The American Newspaper Repository Collection of the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL) at Duke University consists of approximately six thousand bound newspaper volumes and more than 11,000 unbound newspaper items, most of which came, directly or indirectly, from the British Library. Notable long runs of historical newspapers include the World, the New York Herald Tribune, the New York Times, and the Chicago Tribune. There are also runs of trade journals, Communist papers such as the Daily Worker, and foreign language and immigrant papers, including those produced by immigrants and ex-patriates from Russia and Eastern Europe. Many of these runs apparently exist nowhere else in the original format, which makes this collection into a resource of major scholarly significance.
