Abstract

Established in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. The Chicago Office opened in 1891. The Information Center served as a corporate research library and reference center for the agency.

Collection spans the years 1971-2000 and consists largely of trade publications produced by commercial publishers, academic institutions, professional associations and market research firms. Publications address a broad range of market sectors, product categories, demographics and consumer behaviors. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.
