<abstract encodinganalog="520">This collection chiefly contains letters from Marcy Randall, Campbell County, Kentucky, to her brother, Allen Hawkins, in West Glocester, Rhode Island.  The letters primarily refer to matters of health, family activities, and religion.  Many of the letters dated during the 1860s include Randall's commentary about the Civil War.  Acquired as part of the George Washington Flowers Collection of Southern Americana.</abstract>

<p>Collection chiefly contains letters from Marcy Randall of Visalia and Grant's Lick, Campbell County, Kentucky, to her brother, Allen Hawkins, in West Glocester, Rhode Island.  The letters primarily refer to matters of health, family activities, and religion. Many of the letters dated during the 1860s include Randall's commentary about the Civil War. Of particular interest are Marcy's comments about her fear of enemy depredations, rising costs of goods, the effect of the draft, and slaves returning to their masters. Acquired as part of the George Washington Flowers Collection of Southern Americana.</p>
