Craufurd D. Goodwin has served as a Professor of Economics and administrator at Duke University since 1962. He was born on May 23, 1934 in Montreal, Canada. He earned a B. A. in Economics and Political Science from McGill University in 1955, and a Ph. D. in Economics from Duke University in 1958. He joined the faculty at Duke as a Professor of Economics in 1962. In addition to his teaching and research in economics, Goodwin has held a number of administrative positions at Duke University:

He has written and co-authored numerous books, most recently Economics and National Security: A History of Their Interaction (1991); Missing the Boat: The Failure to Internationalize American Higher Education (1991); Academic Mobility in a Changing World: Regional and Global Trends (ed. with A. Smith, U. Teichler and P. Blumenthal, 1996); Beyond Government: Extending the Public Policy Debate in Emerging Democracies (ed. with Michael Nacht, 1995); Talking to Themselves: The Search for Rights and Responsibilities of the Press and Mass Media in Four Latin American Nations (with Michael Nacht, 1995); The Academic's Handbook, 2nd Ed. (with Leigh DeNeef, 1995), and Art and the Market (1998).
He directs the Honors Program in the Department of Economics and is editor of the journal, History of Political Economy. He is currently the James B. Duke Professor of Economics and teaches introductory macroeconomics and microeconomics, as well as courses in the history of economic thought and policy.
