The Special Assistant to the President was responsible for ensuring University compliance with equal employment opportunity and affirmative action legislation.
Materials in the collection include administrative records, correspondence, financial and statistical reports, memoranda, newspaper clippings, and other materials primarily documenting Office of Civil Rights (OCR) compliance and complaints associated with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, compliance with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW), and fair hiring practices for faculty. Dates of the materials range from 1975 to 1988, but a majority of the materials range from 1978-1981.

Patrons must sign the Acknowledgement of Legal Responsibility and Privacy Rights form before using this collection. For a period of twenty-five years from the origin of the material, permission in writing from the office of origin and the University Archivist is required for use. After twenty-five years, records that have been processed may be consulted with the permission of the University Archivist.
