Historical Note

Female faculty began meeting in a caucus in 1975. A formal organizational plan was drawn up and approved in March of 1979. The Women's Network was originally concerned with issues surrounding "the recruitment, retention, and treatment of faculty women." Its focus later expanded to include matters of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, salary equity, the dual responsibilities of work and family, and other matters. In the early 1980's, the Women's Network separated into two distinct divisions, one for faculty, and one for staff and administrators. Members of the Women's Network also assisted in setting up a network for graduate and professional women students.
