These are five poems that Harris called "War-June Poems". They are mainly about mothers and their soldier sons during war.
Mother's Regret of War
Oheer the Soldier Boys
Mother's Lonely Thought of War
The Soldier's Return
A Mother's Love and Prayer

Is it true that he war is coming.
Surely in our way
As we read the news, and hear reports,
Of the doings far away?
The scripture is fast fulfilling
In signs and various things,
And when the Lord is willing
The last echos will ring.
Yet it seems to hard for us to part.
Not knowing what's before us.
With fearful eyes and sad at heart
And heavy trouble o'er us.
We've nursed our boys with tenderest care
Watched o'er them day and night,
Exercise them in the open air
While the man was shining bright.
And now shall we bid them all adieu
For the sake of their country home
To face the nations they never knew
How or when the end shall come?
We delight in seeing our boys as men
Brave soldiers on the ground,
But, we seek not hurridly for the end,
To build their earthly mound.
With honest minds, and pure in heart
To god our prayers ascend,
To send us peace before the start
While on Him we must depend
Lord answer now the mother's prayer
While we look to thee for peace,
Give justice to us here and there,
And grant the war will cease.
Elizabeth J. Harris - "The Hill"
Oheer the Soldier Boys.
(By Elizabeth J. Harris.)
Play and cheer, the Soldier boys
That have left their comfort, home and joys
As Heroes, here and there they are found.
As noblemen, they are all around.
Pity them for the sake of their homes
Cheer them, as they marching come
Encourage them, as they onward go
From friend, to enemy, to and fro.
Remember they are out for your Country's sake
Exposed to the weather, abuses to take
While onward to the Battle field
As man to man, they dare not yield.
Remember them while you are fareing well
Send them tokens and news that tell
Of your interest, sympathy, and love,
Of your prayers for them, to Him above
But Oh, while in training, if peace should come
To see the boys, come marching home
We'd meet them, and greet them, and share them our joys
And welcome and cheer the dear Soldier boys.
Mother's Lonely Throught of War
(By Elizabeth J. Harris)
The Soldier boys are all around
In training and fighting on some old ground
Our minds are unsettled, our country the same
We sigh and we wonder, at those to blame.
Husbands and fathers, are away from home
Sons and brothers, are out to roam,
O'er field and country, from land to land,
To meet their foes, as their country demands
On every side the Bugles are calling
While men on the battle-field are falling
Across the seas from waterty tide
Some are living, and many have died.
The Flags are hoisted, and signs are given
And prayers have been raised to the God of heaven
So we'll, wait and we'll hope, we'll watch and we'll pray
That his dreadful time will soon pass away.
The Soldier's Return
(By Mrs. Elizabeth J. Harris)
"The Soldier boys are leaving Camps
Returning to their homes
So many hearts will be made glad
To greet them as they come,
They have answered the call
They have done their bit,
For the sake of their country and home
And now they return for their usual bit
Around the family and home.
They have met with different kinds of folks
Some pleasant, kind, and unkind,
They were welcome and cheered in many homes
According to feeling and minds
We have met and learned to love them
We've received them in our homes
And we'll gladly welcome them again
If essential they should come.
Farewell dear boys dear Soldier boys
Thank God for the lives that were saved.
And if you are called to duty again
Go ahead with faith and brave.
A Mother's Love and Prayer
By [Mrs. crossed out] Elizabeth J. Harris
Some mother's prayer is answered
Some sister's prayer is heard.
Our hearts and minds are more at ease
Through the mercy of our Lord.
Few weeks ago we trembled with fear
Listening for certain demands,
To call our boys from kindred dear
To strike strange and cruel hands.
Many of them were willing to go
Others were sad at heart,
To think of the danger on before
And from whom they had to part [correction was added by hand]
But now it seems that peace is near
Which we hope with every nation,
Regardless on the nerve or fear
Bid peace, throughout creation.
Though we may be divided here
By laws, and rules and ways,
But a mother's love is near and dear
And will be, the same always."
