Documentary papyri --Egypt --30 B.C.-640 A.D. Correspondence --Egypt --30 B.C.-640 A.D. Serene (From Egypt), 6th cent. Material: 1 item : papyrus, mounted in glass, incomplete ; 9 x 16 cm. Note: Actual dimensions of item are 8.6 x 15.4 cm. 9 lines. Written across the fibers on the recto; the address written along the fibers on the verso; the verso was reused for another text in a different hand and inverse to the text on the recto. Upper margin of 1 cm.; left margin of 1.5 cm. P.Duk.inv. 839 was formerly P.Duk.inv. C 51. Letter from Egypt, written on papyrus. Written by Petre (Petros) to his "brother" papa Serene introducing the letter carrier Ammone (Ammonios) "from the island"(?). Concerns agriculture and sending someone(?) on a yearly basis to take care of it(?). Mentions Mena son of Apater. Verso has a letter in Coptic (P.Duk.inv. 839 V). In Coptic.
