David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library

Self-Service Copying

  • Researchers may bring digital or other cameras into the reading room. A lighted camera stand is available in the reading room. A digital camera is available for loan at the service desk.
  • A black-and-white photocopier is available in the research room for readers' use in copying materials from manuscript collections, subject to approval by staff. As a rule, bound or fragile materials may not be copied. Some collections are subject to donor-imposed restrictions.
  • Photocopies are ten cents per page if using cash, or seven cents per page if using a copy card. If using cash, please bring a supply of change, as the copier will change only $1 bills. Minimal change is available at the desk. Photocopy cards may be purchased in the main lobby of Perkins Library or in the Duke Card Office, 100 West Union Building, in increments of $1.00.
  • Researchers may bring portable flatbed scanners for copying non-bound materials, subject to staff approval. Scanning devices that roll across documents, or that might damage documents in any way, may not be used.
  • Copies taken from the Rubenstein Library’s collection may not be deposited in the library or archive of another institution.
  • The Rubenstein Library reserves the right to decline, at the library's discretion, requests for reproductions.
