Duke alumni and retirees may qualify for free library privileges. Visit the Lilly or Perkins Circulation desk to request a library card. Friends of the Library should bring the card sent in their introductory packets to receive their library card.
Most items may be borrowed for four weeks. Loans are only guaranteed for two weeks if someone else requests the same book. There is no two week guaranteed loan period for books recalled for use by Reserves. Books may be renewed if they have not been recalled or have other outstanding requests for another patron.
The Duke University Libraries and the Duke University Alumni Association have worked together to provide access to a set of online resources available to all Duke alumni. To access these databases, register with the Duke Alumni Directory. Once you have logged in, click on the "Library Databases" link near the top of the page. This will take you to the Duke Alumni Library Online Access page with links to the selected databases. This page also has a chat box where you can get real-time assistance from reference librarians for any of these selected databases or other questions regarding the library.
