If you do not find an item in the stacks or in the sorting area, ask at the Circulation Desk. The staff there can investigate whether the book is on reserve, checked out, missing, being repaired, etc. If the Circulation staff have no information indicating an alternate location for the item, you may submit a search request. Staff members will make three thorough searches for the book.
You will be notified of the book's status after the first search. You may use your interlibrary loan account to request from another institution books that are missing from Duke's collection. Information on setting up an ILL account and requesting materials may be found at http://library.duke.edu/libraries/ill.html.
