The lending period for materials is set by the library that supplies them. Borrowers can expect to keep most materials for four weeks, although occasionally libraries restrict a loan to one or two weeks. The due date will be marked clearly on the bookstrap when you pick up your item. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BOOKSTRAP FROM ILL MATERIALS.
Photocopies of journal articles are yours to keep.
Patrons should make every effort to complete their work with ILL materials within the original loan period. If you would like to request a renewal, log on to your ILLiad account at least four days prior to an item's due date (after that you will have to contact the ILL office for a renewal).
From the Review Requests section of the main menu, select View/Renew Checked Out Items. Click on the gray transaction number button to the left of the item you wish to renew. This will bring up a detailed information page for that item. Select the Request Renewal button at the upper right hand corner of the screen. We will contact the lending library for permission to renew. If the renewal is not granted by the lending institution, we will notify you to return the item on the original due date. Only one renewal per item can be requested.
Some libraries have a policy of no renewals. If you attempt to request a renewal for such items, you will receive a message stating that a renewal is not allowed for this item.
Requests for renewal after the due date will not be considered. If you still need the item, we ask you to fill out another ILL request form and we will attempt to obtain a copy from another library. Renewals are not guaranteed for a semester.
The lending library may specify conditions for the use of materials, such as "no copying permitted" or "for use in the library only".
Patrons are responsible for the safe return of loans to the ILL Office or the ILL book drop. Failure to observe the rules of may result in the loss of borrowing privileges for the borrower as well as for Duke ILL.
