The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library currently has four special subject-focused research centers.

Franklin PaintingThe John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture

The Franklin Research Center seeks to identify and preserve materials generated by (rather than simply about) people of African descent, and to make these materials widely available for research and teaching.


Advertising imageJohn Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History

Through preserving historical records and archives and through related programs, the Center stimulates interest in and study of the roles of sales, advertising, and marketing in society.

Collections in the Bingham Center document the public and private lives of women and the cultural contexts which have shaped them. You will also find information on the Women's Studies Research Grant Program, news about recent acquisitions, and announcements of upcoming events.

The Documentary Archive collects still photographs, moving images, and audio recordings that document social change, occupational culture, race, ethnicity, and gender around the world and in the American South.

The Archive for Human Rights identifies, collects, and provides access to materials generated by organizations and individuals working within and having significant impact on the field of human rights.
