The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library

Using Materials in the Dalton-Brand Reading Room

Researchers are welcome to visit the Dalton-Brand Reading Room, 103 Perkins Library, to examine manuscript and rare print materials. Although an appointment is not necessary, we encourage patrons to contact us in advance. Due to space constraints, many of our collections are housed in the offsite Library Service Center and must be requested in advance. Retrieval takes approximately 24 weekday hours. The location designation for such material in the Duke University Libraries catalog is “Special Collections Library: Library Service Center” or “LSC.” If you see this designation, or are unsure of the location of the material you wish to see, please contact us.
