Notes:
- For financial data since 2002, see past financial reports at Year in Review and the current financial report.
- As the current year's statistics become available, they are posted by the University's News Service in Duke at a Glance.
- Figures from 1990 onward are given for the Fall semester of the year indicated, and were taken from the University's annual reports and financial statements. Earlier figures are taken from Bulletins and other sources as available. Due to differences in accounting methods, figures prior to 1990 are not always comparable with the figures for later years.
- The tuition figure is for first-year students in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, and does not include room, board and fees. Tuition in the graduate and professional schools varies.
- The figures for faculty and students are FTE (full-time equivalent) figures for the Fall semester.
- The value given for the endowment is the market value at the time the annual report is released. The figure does not include the value of funds held by other parties (e.g., The Duke Endowment).
- We track only the most commonly requested categories of information, and cannot custom compile statistics for you. A good source for statistics about schools in North Carolina is The Statistical Abstract of Higher Education in North Carolina, http://www.northcarolina.edu/content.php/pres/publications/publications.htm . The page provides links to this and other publications about higher education in North Carolina.
- There are also a number of popular mass-market publications intended to help high school students choose colleges. These magazines usually include a description of the institution, figures for tuition, enrollment, makeup of the student body, the number of faculty, financial aid data, admissions statistics, and so forth. Your local librarian may be able to help you to locate these.
