The Continuing Resource Acquisitions (CRA) Department seeks an engaged and enthusiastic individual for an internship opportunity where they will gain work experience in library technical services principles and processes. CRA staff manage many critical aspects of the electronic resources lifecycle, including e-resource licensing, trials, continuing resource orders, resource assessment, access verification/activation, knowledge base maintenance, and e- resource troubleshooting.

Under the supervision of the Electronic Resources Management Librarian, the CRA intern will participate in the project to implement the FOLIO library services platform ERM application for Duke University Libraries. Specifically, this position will perform data creation, analysis, and input of current and historic licensing documents to stand up Duke’s license structure in FOLIO.


  • Support the DUL Licensing Team through management and review of approximately 1200 historic and incoming license documents for transfer from SharePoint into the FOLIO ERM application. This work will include:
    • Collaboration with DUL Licensing Team to develop and define a taxonomy, licensing metadata, and descriptive file naming conventions
    • File preparation (reviewing existing documents, some scanning of hard copies, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) conversion as needed)
    • Identification of missing documentation
    • Liaising with content providers and/or consortia partners to fill gaps in historic licenses, memoranda of agreement, and amendments.
    • Documentation and refinement of license documentation ingest process
  • Additional responsibilities may include:
    • Support of continuing resource acquisitions activities, including reconciling and documenting title lists, reviewing and processing renewals, and researching problem titles
    • Participation in CRA department meetings, Technical Services division forums, and other DUL and university events, as appropriate.
  • Complete other special projects and duties as assigned

Required: BA/BS and current enrollment in or a relevant graduate-level program

Preferred: Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an MLIS/MIS program accredited by the American Library Association.

Hiring Rate

$16.50 per hour. The position is not eligible for University fringe benefits or moving, housing, or relocation expenses.


This internship is a temporary, part-time position available for up to 10 hours per week from January 2020 - August 2020. Hours are flexible within a M-F, 8:30-5:00 work week (some evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required), but interns are expected to set and maintain a consistent schedule.
