The Library Human Resources department at Duke University Libraries (DUL) has an unpaid field experience opportunity for library school students interested in gaining experience in library management.
We are looking for an individual to assist in researching and identifying best practices among academic libraries in employment of students, interns and graduate assistants and to develop recommendations to the Director, Library Human Resources on programmatic changes.
Annually, Duke University Libraries employs approximately 250 Duke students to support the daily operations of the Libraries (Perkins/Bostock and Rubenstein Libraries on West Campus, Lilly and the Music Library on East Campus, Marine Lab Library, and our technical services departments at the Smith Warehouse. In addition, we provide 12-15 paid internships or graduate assistantships to graduate students pursuing a career in librarianship or a related field. We also host field experience students (unpaid positions generally for academic credit) as opportunities arise. LHR is interested in exploring how we can better support each of these groups in meeting their career aspirations.
Requirements: Current enrollment in an MLS program accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent, interest in library management
Time frame: 2018 Fall semester
Hours: Flexible, during normal business hours (8am-5pm)
