Ethel Grace Cooper "Missionaries from Everywhere" Scrapbook, 1952-1970.
Description:
Ethel Grace Cooper resided in Portland, Ore., and Hawthorne, Calif., while creating this scrapbook. She was active in the Nazarene Foreign Missionary Society. Cooper's scrapbook (58 pages) focuses on missionaries in service. It is organized by country served, including India, Africa, Haiti, Uruguay, Italy, Formosa, Alaska, Mexico, Barbados, Trinidad, Peru, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, British Honduras, Argentina, Cape Verde Islands, Brazil, Cuba, China and Japan. There are 324 photographs, one-half are in color and the other in black-and-white, and the majority feature posed individuals and groups. All but a few of the photographs are captioned with the names of the missionaries. She also included information on the district and national officers for the Church, and provided brief documentation for the 1952 and 1960 General Assemblies. Other items include newspaper clippings, Christmas Cards, post cards, postage stamps, and a directory of missionaries and their children. In addition, there are letters to Cooper from several women missionaries in the field. If Cooper was not related to the Mary E. Cooper in the scrapbook, who served as a missionary in Portuguese East Africa, she was at least intensely interested in the missionary work of her church.
