Collection Overview

Collection includes two letters, four newspaper clippings, an etching of Murphy, along with Murphy's own temperance pledge card. The newspaper clippings cover Murphy's life and religious work for temperance, except one, which focuses on "Johnny Clem, the drummer boy of Shiloh." In one letter (1871 July 25), Murphy states that he is preparing notes of his visit to Hartford, and records an introduction to Mrs. O'Donivan Rosar; the second letter (1871 October 30) provides an introduction on behalf of "Brother Scott."
