Abstract:
In existence since the early 1900s, the Duke University Marching Band (DUMB) is an integral part of Duke University sports, providing music and vocal support to university games such as football and basketball. Materials in the collection include administrative records (of the DUMB organization), correspondence, handbooks, game schedules, flyers, the DUMB newsletter, drum heads from the 1958 Orange Bowl and 1961 Cotton Bowl football games, and rosters of alumni.

Materials in the collection include administrative records (of the organization), correspondence, handbooks, game schedules, flyers, the DUMB newsletter, a signed drum head from the 1958 Orange Bowl football games, a drum head from the 1961 Cotton Bowl football game, and rosters of alumni.

Biographical / historical:

In existence since the early 1900's, the Duke University Marching Band (DUMB) is an integral part of Duke University sports, providing music and vocal support to university games such as football and basketball. Playing home games, close out-of-town games and any Bowl games, DUMB has established a reputation for performing creative and highly entertaining halftime shows.

Acquisition information:
The Duke University Marching Band (DUMB) records were received by the University Archives as a transfer in 1973, 1976, and 2017.
