The Jay B. Hubbell Center functions as a collecting center within the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University.

The library welcomes scholars and students to make use of the Center's holdings in the Special Collections research room.

There is a wealth of Internet sites providing information about American literature and its study.  The list below represents but a small fraction of these sites, and concentrates on library collections and holdings relating to the materials found in the Jay B. Hubbell Center. 

 

Manuscript Repositories and Special Collections Libraries with Holdings in American Literature:

 

American Antiquarian Society:  Documents American life from the colonial era through the Civil War and Reconstruction

Hispanic Society of America:  Houses collections relating to Spain and the New World

Library Company of Philadelphia: An independent library with collections focused on early America

Library of Congress: Has many materials available in its Manuscript Division as well as in its online American Memory project, which contains items on the history and culture of the United States

New York Public Library's The Henry W. and Albert A. Berg Collection of English and American Literature:  Includes first editions, rare books, autograph letters, and manuscripts

University of North Carolina's Special Collections Library: Collection strengths include North Carolina literature and the folklore and history of the American South

University of North Carolina's Center for the Study of the American South and Documenting the American South: Contain extensive primary materials on the history and literature of the American South

The Center for American History (University of Texas): Houses historical material on Texas, the South and Southwest, and other Americana

University of Virginia's Special Collections Library: Contains many primary materials related to the study of American history and literature, including Thomas Jefferson's Papers and The Clifton Waller Barrett Library of American Literature

University of Virginia's American Studies Program:  Features primary and secondary materials on American literature, history, and culture along with materials on the discipline's historiography and pedagogy

Yale University's Beinecke Library: Includes extensive materials in The Collection of American Literature
