An entire thesis could be written on the cultural and political messages in the Nativity scene on the cover of this Milanese fashion magazine for men from December, 1935. The black shirt and beret worn by the young boy is the uniform of Mussolini's "Black Shirts," who were little more than political gangs using intimidation and violence in the name of the Party. The figure offering gifts is a little girl wearing the beret, white shirt and black skirt of the Fascist youth groups for girls. In October, 1935 Italy invaded Ethiopia, the last independent nation in Africa, capturing its capital Addis Ababa in May, 1936. Italy's invasion alienated it even further from Britain and France, and brought it much closer to an all-out alliance with Germany.

On the back of the Uomini magazine, shown in the image on the right, is an advertisement for men's clothing.
