In 1919, after the end of World War I, a grop of Italians formed a national alliance called "Opera Nazionale Per I Combattenti" to benefit veterans of the war, particularly those who were farmers or agricultural laborers. As this organization's influence grew, the Fascist party, also in its own ascendancy, took control of it and presented it as its own program, as it had with so many others.
