The cover of this publication, printed in Palermo in 1916 at the height of Italian involvement in World War I, celebrates a rising 20th century Italian nationalism and expansionism, beginning with the Libyan War in 1911, a costly war which ended with the Italian occupation of Libya in 1912. Many Italians migrated to the Middle East, spurred by promises of cheap land. This publication was in part directed at these colonialists. Most socialists, including a young Benito Mussolini, were opposed to the Libyan War, and demonstrated vigorously against it. By 1914, Mussolini had abandoned the Socialist Party and was contemplating a different path of political action.
