Another little book which helped pass the time in the seventeenth century is this humorous collection of proverbs, anecdotes, and bawdy short stories which remind one of Boccaccio's medieval tales. One story's title reads: "A simple farmer, cured by a doctor, goes once again to his house and finds the doctor's wife instead, who cures him better than her husband did."
