Nashville, Tenn., Nov 7th, 1864

It affords me pleasure to state that the bearer hereof, Mrs Thompson, the widow of a soldier of the 1st East Tenn Cavalry (Federal) who was killed by rebel bushwhackers, is pusonally known to me as an East Tennessee lady of the highest respectability, and unquestionably loyal to the Federal Government. She is left with two children to provide for, and altogether the circumstances of her case are such as to commend her to the most favorable consideration of all Government officials especially, and all other to whom she may have occasion to present this testimonial.
