Search Help and Information Examples below Please note that this search page covers the Advertising Cookbooks Category only, containg scanned images and transcribed text from 82 cookbooks, dating between 1878 - 1929. All categories in the Emergence of Advertising in America project (EAA) are representative, not comprehensive. If you perform very narrowly defined searches, you increase your chances of a "zero" result. There are two ways to search the Advertising Cookbooks Category: the Keyword Search and the Complex Search. The Keyword Search (found on the General EAA Search Page) allows keyword searching on information that physically describes the book (database terms) as well as on information found within each book (transcribed text). Only the Title Page and the Table of Contents/Index of each book have been transcribed (i.e. typed into a text document and thus made searchable). We have not transcribed the content of all the scanned pages. The information found here may include chapter and section titles, bibliographic data, etc. The Complex Search allows you to search on several words at once ("Boolean" searching) in the Advertising Cookbooks database, combining selected keywords and database terms, along with illustration and special features descriptions. The database terms included were deemed most likely to be useful to a range of users of the EAA project. An explanation of all terms used in the Complex Search is available in the Advertising Cookbooks Database Terms and Descriptions page. Please note that most of the books included in the Advertising Cookbooks on Advertising section of the EAA project are text-heavy without many illustrations. In most cases, the entire book has not been scanned, rather excerpts (selected chapters and many of the illustrations - usually about 10 - 30 pages) are presented here. A handful of the shorter books or pamphlets are presented in their entirety. You may determine whether the whole book or just selections is included by checking the "Notes" section of the database or the "About this Book" section provided for each item. You may consult lists of the items in this category arranged by title and by subject. For further questions please consult the FAQs.
