Duke University Libraries Technical Services supports the resource life cycle for collections in the William R. Perkins Library, Bostock Library and Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library which comprise the main West Campus library complex, alongside the Lilly and Music libraries on East Campus, and the Pearse Memorial Library at the Duke Marine Lab. DUL Technical Services works cooperatively with the Rubenstein Library Technical Services as well as the separately administered libraries serving the schools of Business, Divinity, Law and Medicine which together form one of the nation’s top ten private university library systems.

Technical Services resource management activities include licensing, acquisition, resource description, access management, shelf preparation, and physical protection and treatment of materials for library collections in all formats. Staff work to keep the collections robust and accessible. We maintain the online catalog, discovery systems, and other services to support teaching, learning, and research for Duke University students, staff, and faculty. Technical Services is comprised of six departments: Conservation Services, Continuing Resource Acquisitions, Metadata & Discovery Strategy, Monograph Acquisitions, Resource Description, Serials & Retention Management.
