The LHR Employee Engagement and Inclusion Coordinator focuses on developing and supporting an engaged, committed, and diverse workforce through recruitment, staff development programming, identification of best practices, and recognition activities. This position will oversee new employee onboarding (including managing the orientation program), identify, coordinate, and support staff development initiatives (including, but not limited to programming in support of management excellence, diversity and inclusion, University-wide initiatives, and trends in librarianship). They will also partner with managers to promote a culture that recognizes the accomplishments of staff. This position is a 2 year term appointment with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding (25%)
- In coordination with the LHR Representative for Recruitment, assists with the recruitment processes for assigned librarian, exempt and non-exempt positions, including position development and approval process, posting and advertising, applicant tracking and communication, scheduling, search committee staffing, and logistics, as needed.
- Develops and manages a portfolio of year-long onboarding activities that support a welcoming environment and the integration of new staff into the life of the Libraries.
- Regularly assesses onboarding initiatives and best practices.
- With the LHR Representative for Recruitment, establishes and co-chairs a DUL recruitment and employee engagement advisory group.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports on various HR statistics as requested.
Employee Engagement (40%)
- Identifies the need for, develops, coordinates, and supports staff development initiatives (including, but not limited to programming in support of management excellence, diversity and inclusion, and University-wide initiatives). Collaborates with the Director of LHR and other key stakeholders and prioritizes future training and professional development needs.
- Working with the DUL Employee Recognition Committee, promotes a culture that recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of staff.
- Leads and/or supports special projects in support of Library Human Resources initiatives.
- Communicates and educates staff on departmental/Duke HR policies, procedures, and/or benefit changes; continuously learns and adapts to new policies and procedures required to serve as an informational resource.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (30%)
- Develops programs, initiatives, and strategies to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace, in alignment and collaboration with key campus partners.
- Recommends and works with managers to develop and support strategies to promote the recruitment and retention of underrepresented staff, as well those with disabilities.
- Identifies, gathers, analyzes, and presents data and reports related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives, identifying trends and advising on solutions.
- Working in collaboration with the Libraries’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee (DivE-In), Duke University Black Staff Association (DULBSA), Administrative Council, Libraries’ Assembly, and other library groups, oversees, develops, and directs programming to support efforts to create a respectful, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
- Monitors emerging trends, research, and resources to identify innovative opportunities to enhance diversity programming and projects.
Other (5%)
- Displays continuing growth in professional and subject knowledge and takes an active interest in the profession. Growth and interest should be demonstrated through the continuing development of professional knowledge and abilities, membership and participation in professional organizations, and service to the library, University, or community in a professional capacity.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications

Education:
Required: Relevant advanced degree, MLS from an ALA-accredited program, or a combination of education and experience, including, but not limited to, relevant experience in academic libraries, human resources, and/or D/E/I/A.
Experience:
Required: One year experience leading initiatives in academic libraries, human resources or diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programming; demonstrated successful project management experience; must be flexible and a self-starter; possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; ability to create and maintain spreadsheets and analyze data; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality; ability to work independently and as part of a team and to handle multiple detailed assignments.
Preferred: One year exempt level experience in recruitment, staff development, or HR generalist activities; prior management experience; prior experience working in an academic research library.

Salary and Benefits
Salary and rank dependent on qualifications and experience; however, the anticipated range is $53,000-$65,000. Comprehensive benefits package includes 20 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental, disability and life insurance and support for professional development and training.
