Sponsoring for Library Access

Access to library resources may be requested for individuals who are not Duke faculty, staff, or students and would not receive access through normal processes.

When sponsoring someone for library access, you and/or your department will be held responsible for their use of library resources. This can include penalties and costs incurred for inappropriate use of electronic resources, late returns, lost/damaged items and recovery of costs accrued by the libraries for interlibrary loan.

No more than one calendar year, or the expiration date of the sponsored individual's account with OIT. Renewals are possible.

Extension of services for faculty, staff or students leaving Duke Active Duke faculty or staff
  • Electronic Resources
    *Note that some professional schools cannot offer extensions to electronic resources
  • Duke Physical Borrowing (fund code required)
  • Interlibrary Request (fund code required). Note that some professional schools do not offer ILR services to individuals who have left Duke but are still using library resources.

No more than six months. Sponsors should set the length of time for the shortest period necessary to meet their needs. Renewals are possible.
