Duke University Libraries’ Global Studies Department supports the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach that respond to the complex, interconnected challenges of our time. In our engagement with faculty and students, we foster global literacy and intercultural understanding through access to international publications and scholarly information networks. Our work bridges global perspectives and local needs, helping cultivate meaningful empathy for cultures and regions around the world.
We offer:
- Dynamic classroom instruction for undergraduate and graduate courses
- Expert research consultations to identify primary and secondary sources, open-access materials, and international scholarly repositories, with special attention to resources in non-English languages
- Carefully curated online research guides that emphasize transnational approaches to global issues
- Collaboration with curators and selectors to foster strategic collections of primary sources and research materials that support and anticipate global teaching and scholarship at Duke
- Mentorship for emerging academic librarians pursuing international librarianship
At its core, the Global Studies Department aims to illuminate the interconnected and transnational academic landscape of knowledge production, promoting understanding from multiple perspectives and fostering a more inclusive understanding of our world.
