Consulting on workflows
We can help at any stage of a research project to help you think through the organization, documentation, and structure of your workflow. We can suggest:
-
- Recommendations for good data management practices including folder structures, file naming, version control, and storage and backup strategies
- Tools available to support and implement your workflow
- Considerations for documentation and metadata
Tools to help
OSF: Looking for a free project management tool? Check out the Open Science Framework (OSF), offered by the Center for Open Science (COS). Duke has partnered with COS to offer OSF for Institutions, which means you can sign in with your NetID and affiliate your projects with Duke. OSF features include:
- Managing and structuring your project materials
- Controlling access through granular permissions
- Connecting to third-party tools (such as Box, Google Drive, & GitHub)
- Sharing your project with the broader research community
We are happy to work with research teams to set up customized OSF projects as well as provide in-person or virtual workshops on how to use the OSF. Contact askdata@duke.edu for help with the OSF.
LabArchives: LabArchives, an Electronic Research Notebook, is available to the entire Duke community. Contact ASIST (ASIST@duke.edu) for support on best practices in data management within LabArchives including:
- Notebook organization
- Identification of other resources
- Training and consultation on using LabArchives
