This exhibit showcases some of the materials that Professor Weisenfeld analyzed during the course of her research for Gas Mask Nation. Some of the items in the exhibit comprise a small portion of Duke’s holdings focused on Japanese military history and visual design, while others belong to the author. The libraries hold a wide range of related historical documents, photographs, diaries, illustrations, and ephemera, all of which are freely accessible to students and faculty for research. Since many of the items in the exhibit contain original images and text from historical periods of imperial expansion and conflict, please be advised that some material may be disturbing to viewers.
This exhibition was sponsored in part by the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.
