Define America is a Duke University student-run organization that seeks to advocate for justice for (im)migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in the United States. Every year the organization hosts Undocumented Awareness Week, with members working to raise awareness among the Duke community about the lived experiences of those affected by an undocumented or otherwise precarious immigration status here and beyond. This year the organization created an exhibit to raise awareness. Define America’s exhibit aims to dedicate a space to the voices of Duke students, staff, and community members who have experience with being undocumented, an immigrant, or have a relative or loved one who has been in such a position. The exhibit features a series of personal narratives submitted by students, staff, and community members on Duke’s campus, news clippings that highlight important events of significance that people felt have impacted their story as immigrants, and images of personal significance relating to these personal narratives.

This exhibition was sponsored in part by the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.
