The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) was an organization of students and young activist that revolutionized grassroots organizing and political education during the civil rights movement. Influenced and called to action because of the Greensboro Sit-ins that happened February 1, 1960, students gathered at Shaw University on Easter weekend under the leadership of Ella Baker. With her advisement, the students set up their first headquarter in Atlanta, creating a network of organizers throughout the south that engaged in protest, political education, voter registration, and grassroots organizing.
