Research Skills: 
  • Using archival materials, whether digitized or in print, to identify incidents of student activism in the 1930s and 1940s.
  • Creating a bibliography of those materials. 
Project Management Skills: 
  • Creating a proposal document, a scope document, and a Gantt chart. 
  • Articulating a new definition of activism as represented by students at Duke University in the 1930s and 1940s. 
  • Creating a background bibliography of student activism in the 1930s and 1940s in the United States during those eras.

Specific skills included the following

  •  Clarifying the scope of the project.
  •  Identifying appropriate work-clusters and their participants.
  •  Distributing and coordinating work responsibilities so that they are feasible.
  •  For each sub-group: Identifying different orders of work, the skills needed; learning the needed skills; identifying the expertise and experts needed; identifying appropriate search techniques; identifying appropriate software; distributing the work feasibly and practically.
  • Resolving questions like copyright and preservation.
  • Meeting the initial criteria for the project.
  • Publishing the project.
  • Managing copyright and preservation.
